Lift Off!
The lift off is very smooth, and it is a marvelous feeling to be taken along by the whim of the wind... more below
Before you know it, the vehicles are below you, the birds are flying beside you, and you have lifted off. I loved the fact that the balloon just goes with the wind, it's a very "zen" experience. There is no directing, just floating.
You can sit or stand during the hour long flight, I imagine everyone stays standing, it's too beautiful to miss anything. It is a very smooth ride, nothing like flying in a plane, and very little movement to make you feel nauseous if you suffer from motion sickness.
The only bumps you feel are from your fellow passengers moving around in their little section of the balloon.
The smooth, slow flight also makes it very easy to take a steady shot with a camera, and/or a video. It's also perfect for looking through binoculars.
The burners are loud and on our flight I'd estimate they were on for about 60% of the time. That will change per flight depending on the temperature and wind. When you are taking video, wait about ten minutes to get a better idea of timing as the pilot switches the burners on and off.
