- A spa party is an indulgent and relaxing theme.spa image by BVDC from Fotolia.com
The very word "spa" is synonymous with relaxation and pampering. Guests at a spa party will feel enveloped in a calm, inspiring environment. Whether it is for an event, such as a baby shower, or just an excuse to get together with your friends, this party theme is always a hit. Foods and decorations should be light and fresh and activities should be indulging. - Invitations should set the scene for your guests. Choose light blues and yellows, reminiscent of water and sunshine, in the paper you use. Cut out the paper in the shape of slippers or an eye mask. Include words such as "relax" and "indulge" to let guests know that they can expect to be treated well. To really impress your guests, lay out a hand towel or washcloth and place the invitation on top. Roll them like a scroll and tie the cloth with a ribbon. Hand deliver each invitation.
- If weather permits, host your party outside, among Mother Nature's own decorations. Setup lounge chairs for each guest. Hang strings of lights as dusk approaches. Place candles around the party to create a relaxing ambience.
- Foods should be packed full of nutrients and vitamins, allowing guests to feel nourished inside and out. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a staple at a spa party. Liven them up with yogurt-based dips. For an indulging dessert, dip fruits in chocolate fondue. Shrimp cocktails, edamame and sushi also make refreshing snacks. Small sandwiches, filled with cucumber, avocado, chicken salad or paté, are satisfying for hungry guests.
Fill pitchers with water and cucumbers or citrus slices. Serve a white wine, such as a Riesling or a sparkling wine, to adult guests. Use elegant cocktail or wine glasses. If it's a cool afternoon or evening, serve hot herbal tea. - The most natural choice for spa party activities is relaxing beauty regiments. Fill basins with water to sit at the end of each chair for a foot soak. Float flower petals in each basin. Pour in a drop or two of an essential oil, such as lavender, into each basin.
Make a facial mask by mixing 4 tbsp. of plain yogurt, one mashed avocado, and the juice of half a lemon. Divide this mixture in small bowl among guests. This makes enough for four.
Give guests a warm, damp towel to wash their faces. Have them apply the mask to their faces. Give each guest two cucumbers to place over their eyes, to reduce puffiness. With their feet soaking in the basin, let them relax to ambient music.
After guests have relaxed with their masks, give them warm, damp towels to rinse off the masks. Give each guest towels to dry their feet and pedicure supplies such as emery boards, lotions and nail polish. Each guest should have her own to prevent cross-contamination. Liven the music to set the tone for a talkative, bubbly time.
To really indulge yourself and your guests, hire a local aesthetician or pedicurist to give treatments. - Send guests home with a little reminder of the fun they shared at your party. Make a gift bag for each guest, filled with small bottles of lotions, shampoos or bath salts.
