How to Archive eBooks
- 1). Be aware of the technology you are using. The procedure for archiving is different if you are simply downloading eBooks onto your computer from a website such as eBook.com or eBooks.com, or if you are using Kindle (which can be used on a laptop, certain phones, as well as a Kindle ereader), a Sony Reader or a Nook, some of the most popular ways to read ebooks.
- 2). Check the archiving ability of the software or device. For example, on a Kindle or a Kindle DX, as of the models out in 2010, you can store 1,500 and 3,500 books on each respectively. Books downloaded from eBooks.com can either be placed on an eReader or read with technology such as Microsoft Reader, where the only limitation is how much file space is on your computer. The best place to check this is on the support website for the technology you are using, or by reading an instruction manual.
- 3). Organize and file your eBooks as clearly as possible. If you have them downloaded onto a computer, an external hard drive is the best place to back up and store them. If you have them on a Kindle, Nook or Sony Reader, you can only store as many as the device will allow at one time. Keep track of how many files are on your reader and make sure they are clearly labeled.
