How to Decorate for Winter in the Living Room
- 1). Arrange your furniture around your fireplace. There is nothing quite as warm and cozy in a winter living room as a fireplace. Accessorize the space with a basket of logs and pine cones.
- 2). Think texture. Use warm textile textures such as velvet, corduroy, and fleece. Drape cozy throws, or small blankets, over a couch, chair, or ottoman for a visual look of warmth and coziness. Choose throws in warm winter colors, such as red, orange, brown, and gold. Scatter pillows in similar textures and hues around the room to further enhance the warm scheme.
- 3). Incorporate winter scents. Add candles in earthy or holiday scents such as pine, cinnamon apple, banana nut bread, and warm sugar cookie.
- 4). Choose heavy window treatments. Remove lightweight, summer window treatments and replace them with heavier draperies in deep colors and warm textures.
- 5). Add a rug to create a cozy conversation area in the room. Choose a rug that picks up one or two colors in the room's palette. Position furniture such as your couch, chairs, and coffee table on or around the rug to anchor the conversation area.
- 6). Hang winter artwork on your walls. Choose artwork in deep colors and winter themes for a crowning touch to a living room you'll enjoy all season.
