The British also couldn't resist the captivating charms of the town. During their reign they used the town as a retreat to escape the scorching heat in the North Indian plains. Hunting, golfing, sightseeing, trekking etc. were their favourite pastimes which still continue to be the favourite activities (except for hunting) amongst the tourists, decades after the independence of India.
