Jaipur is the Capital City of Rajasthan, a frontier State in Northwestern India. Rajasthan is incidentally the largest State (in terms of area) in the Indian Union. Rajasthan is also the biggest contributor to the Indian Exchequer through International Tourism. Jaipur therefore plays a major role in the tourism sector of India.

Jaipur was amalgamated into the State of Rajasthan, formed after Indias Independence in 1947. Prior to Independence, Jaipur was one of the Princely States in the British Dominion of India and before the advent of the British, it was an Independent State, loyal to the Emperor of Delhi, namely the Mughals. The City of Jaipur is built in the valley of the Aravali Mountain Ranges. Even today, the entrance to the city while coming from Delhi is spectacular. Sawai Jai Singh II constructed the Walled City of Jaipur in c.1727 AD. Earlier, the Amer Fort atop the mountains surrounding Jaipur City was the center of power and the residence of the Kings (Sawais) of Jaipur. Amer Fort was built in early1500s.

The Walled City of Jaipur was built with Dhaulpuri Stone found in the vicinity of Jaipur having a pinkish texture, earning the city, its oft referred to nickname of The Pink City. Even today, the Walled City of Jaipur exudes Romance. The Johri Bazaar (Jewelers Market) still exists today in the old architecture is a must visit place for everyone visiting Jaipur. Most buildings and structures in the Walled City, including Johri Bazaar are centuries old, many dating back to the founding years of the city.
Rajasthan is famous for its enchanting, mesmerizing, romantic royal palaces, found inside and outside numerous forts and fortresses. Jaipur is no different. The Walled City also houses many Palaces and Royal Family Structures that serve as Historical Icons for visiting tourists. Among these are the famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of Air), built for the ladies of the Royal Family. The structure of the Palace allows plenty of ventilation and the directions kept in mind ensured that those inside would always get cool air. This was also the palace from where the Royal Ladies would view on going festivities and parades on the streets. There are three forts surrounding Jaipur, The Amer Fort, The Jaigarh Fort and the Nahargarh Fort. These Forts are a must visit destination for all tourists visiting Jaipur and will wow one and all.

Jaipur is well connected to all major centers in India by Rail, Road and Air. It is catered to by most international airlines in the world. It forms the highly circuited Golden Triangle for Tourists along with Delhi and Agra. It is also the base for Tours within the state of Rajasthan. For lovers of wildlife, Jaipur has three National Forest Reserves, namely Bharatpur, Sariska, and Ranthambore within a radius of 180 kilometers. Of these the prior is a Bird Sanctuary while the latter two are tiger inhabited forests allowing government operated safaris.
