The first-person shooter is historically a very violent game, but there are some which are comparatively non-violent by being centered around the sport of paintball instead of wartime combat. This makes the games not only fun, but more friendly for all ages. However, not all Playstation 2 games in this sub-genre are as well-made and powerful as others. - Greg Hastings' Tournament Paintball Max'd features more polish than some of the other games available, and the gameplay is as solid as one would hope. There are tournament, career, multiplayer and quick play modes, as well as a huge stash of officially-licensed gear. It also features good artificial intelligence for the enemies. Unlike other PS2 paintball games, this one was fairly well-received critically.
- Unlike other paintball games available, NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 crosses the console barrier and is available on the Wii, Playstation 3, XBox 360 and Playstation 2 consoles. The game includes a field editor mode, as well as tournaments, multiplayer, career and quick play. It is also licensed by the National Professional Paintball League. However, it's not one of the best examples of the game. One complaint is the play areas are all more or less the same size and shape, although their obstacles are laid out differently.
- World Championship Paintball features tournament modes, career modes and official, licensed gear, but lacks the polish of some other paintball titles available for the Playstation 2. You can play the game with your friends, as well as upgrade your weapons to make your player even better at the game. However, IGN says "quite literally nothing about WCP is worth experiencing." The controls are harder to master, and a complaint about the game is its lack of polish.
