Do You Suffer From Colon Pain?

Unfortunately it is sometimes hard to diagnose the source of abdominal pain.
If blood tests have ruled out certain ailments what are you left with? Some possible causes of abdominal pain:
  • IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Spastic Colon
  • Diverticulitis
  • Crohn;s Disease
  • Celiac Disease
  • Lactose Intolerance
  • Ulcerative Colitis
  • Gall stones
  • Ulcer
  • Hearttburn
  • Hiatal Hernia
Many times if blood tests and other medical exams rule out many of the aforementioned ailments, doctors will say you have IBS brought on by stress and poor diet.
The best way to handle IBS is to eat a healthy diet, avoid foods that seem to make you feel worse and find ways to handle your stress.
Fiber can be helpful because it improves the working mechanics of the intestines.
Proceed cautiously and increase the fiber in your diet slowly.
If you increase fiber intake too quickly you may feel bloated and have gas.
Gas and bloating usually improve as you become used to eating more dietary fiber.
The best way to increase your fiber intake is eat a wide variety of high fiber foods.
If gas is a problem for you now or in the past, you will want to avoid foods that tend to make gas worse for example: beans, cabbage and some fruits.
Many people are bothered by dairy products, if so you may be lactose intolerant as well.
Furthermore, foods high in fat or caffeine may make symptoms worse because they can cause your intestines to contract, which may cause cramping.
Some unfortunate souls find chocolate and alcohol are uncomfortable for their tummies as well.
The best way to figure out which foods affect you personally is to keep a food diary and notate when you have discomfort.
That way you can see the food eaten prior that caused the discomfort.
In the case of chocolate and alcohol I would check twice! Some good news is that while IBS most likely will recur throughout your life, it won't get worse, plus it doesn't cause cancer or require surgery, and it won't abridge your life.
Getting back to the fiber issue, some people have found that doing a colon cleanse to clean the digestive track helps make them feel better, lighter and more energized.
As with IBS when you colon cleanse you are recommended to:
  • Eat a healthy well balanced diet, avoiding foods high in fat
  • Drink lots of water and stay hydrated
  • Try eating smaller meals; 6 a day vs.
