End of Days Conspiracy Theories
There are many events that could occur simultaneously or a disaster of epic proportions could happen at any time and the world could end. No one truly knows for sure and we may never find out. I'm sure there are plenty of things that man does not yet understand that can could very well contribute to the end of the world, of course that is if we don't initiate it ourselves.
I'll leave you with this. Scientists at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland will test out a new anti-matter machine that basically executes a small version of the big bang. When matter interacts with its opposite, antimatter, you get a burst of radiation creating other particles. The matter in the machine is whipped in circles at a very high speed and is then fired at the antimatter. An example of one type of particle that can be created is a quark, a fundamental particle and when combined with other quarks, creates a proton. A proton is found in the nucleus of each atom and an atom is a basic unit of matter.
In 2002 CERN was successful in creating over 50,000 anti-hydrogen atoms with their famous Antiproton Decelerator and were able to trap them so they would not reach other matter and be destroyed. The scientists took their first look inside the anti-hydrogen atom. They started a new project comparing hydrogen atoms to anti-hydrogen atoms in an attempt to unravel life's biggest mystery.
In 2009 CERN used their new Large Hadron Collider for the first time. This is the bad boy of all particle accelerators. At 16 miles long, it is the largest in the world and runs at the highest energy. The ultimate goal is to test the structure of space and time. Could we find out that there is something on the other side of a black hole? Could it be a mirror of our universe only the reverse? Could we be getting closer to rewriting our science textbooks? The possibilities seem amazing, but could tampering with Mother Nature come back to bite us in the rump?
Some fear that this could create small black holes that could be trapped on our planet due to gravity. CERN expects them to be destroyed soon after they are created. Is it possible that science has gone too far? Are there certain answers that we are not meant to know and could our thirst for knowledge ultimately consume us? I was freaked out to learn about Yellowstone, never mind the possibility of black holes vacuuming up the earth. CERN has used their Large Hadron Collider before so at least this won't be the first time, but the project itself is new. Could we be playing with fire? Let's hope not.
The way I see it is that we shouldn't worry about CERN's plans just yet, nor should we feed into all of the conspiracy theories out there. There doesn't seem to be a valid explanation for why we should be concerned about the year 2012. The CERN project is exciting yet scary to think about but it's also scheduled two years away from now and a lot can happen in two years. There's plenty of food here for a great sci-fi movie but right now that seems to be the extent of it. The possibilities of the end of the world are entertaining to ponder and we all know that tragedy sells but worrying about it becoming reality is not very healthy. I'm not diving too deep into the idea that year 2012 could be our last. Any one of us could die walking across the street, but we're not going to stay in our houses. You know what they say, Carpe Diem, Seize the Day!
