How to Sell Bank Notes

    • 1). Determine the quality and condition of your banknotes. Banknotes can be uncirculated, meaning that they were purchased directly from a bank or other institution before they were released to the general public, all the way down to the "Good" designation. Check out the banknote grading guide before you determine the condition of your notes (See Resources).

    • 2). Look up the current collectible value of your banknotes. Phone local coin shops and ask about current prices or check out online price guides to get a good idea of how much your particular banknotes are worth. The value of banknotes is determined by condition and by scarcity, with older banknotes generally being worth more than current ones. See Resource for a price guide for U.S. banknotes.

    • 3). Contact local buyers of banknotes, such as large local coin dealers.

    • 4). Place ads in newspapers or magazines devoted to banknote collecting, letting buyers know what you have for sale. Ads may also be placed on such online sites as Craigslist (See Resources).

    • 5). Compare prices locally to the prices you can get online. Accept the best deal.
