- 1). Change a domain name by first purchasing another domain and then forwarding the new name to the old website address. You can mask the domain names if you so chose but what your really trying to do is to attract people to the new domain name. If you to transfer all the files over to a new host under the new domain name you must first get access through ftp and copy the files either to your computer or on to another server.

If your someone who constantly want to change domain names then the best thing to do is to just change the name on the page and swap all the content out without actually altering the domain name. The only way to have a new domain name with the same file extensions is by setting up a new folder and publishing the files to that folder.

One other option to changing your domain name would be to export your files if your using a forum, blog, or some other application and to import them on to the application once you have the new domain name setup correctly on your server. Many phpBB forum users, Wordpress Bloggers, and multiple other open source applications allow you to import and export entire files with your database of information. The only thing you may have to re-due or change now will be the themes, plugins, mods, and styles that were not part of the imported files.
