Is the No Smoking Policy Inside At Work A Good Idea?

Workplace no smoking policies are definitely a good idea as they inform employees and their bosses about the possible ill effects of smoking and the risks they pose to others. No smoking signs ensure that non smokers can work peacefully in a tobacco free environment and aren't exposed to second hand smoke against their will.

A no smoking policy in the workplace assists people who want to quit smoking and at the same time accommodates smokers who wish to continue with their nicotine addiction.

Ill Effects of Smoking

Before contesting the efficacy of no smoking policies in the workplace, one must take a look at why the world is slowly turning away from cigarettes and tobacco use.

Not only does smoking kill you, chain smoking decreases your life span by 30 to 40 years and contributes to oral and lung cancers, bronchitis, dry skin, early onset of old age, wrinkles, lines on your face, fading youth and increase in blood pressure and heart rate.

Carbon monoxide and nicotine mixtures found in cigarettes strain the blood vessels and the heart and can lead to limb amputation, strokes, heart attacks and lack of oxygen supply to the limbs.

Smoking can also result in lung disorders like Emphysema, perinatal mortality, spontaneous abortion, prematurity and low birth weight in babies.

Some of the other ill effects of smoking include lack of oxygen supply to your brains, foul breath, dry mouth, lower energy, decreased lung capacity, reduced olfactory abilities, paler, sallower skin, blood circulation troubles, yellow teeth, yellow and stinking nails and fingertips, coughing and ruined looks.

In short, smoking kills you silently and slowly, over a long period of time and increases your suffering over the years. Low tar cigarettes are as bad as regular cigarettes and electronic cigarettes aren't much better either.

A Few Benefits of a No Smoking Policy in the Workplace

A mandatory no smoking policy at work will force smokers to cut down on their tobacco intake significantly, though it cannot make them quit. It also protects non smokers from the debilitating effects of second hand smoke. So, placing no smoking signs inside an office building is definitely a step in the positive direction.

Smoking inside an air conditioned building pollutes the indoor air and creates a hard to remove, objectionable tobacco stench. Placing a smoking ban inside the office buildings helps improve and maintain the purity and quality of the indoor atmosphere without spending a fortune on air conditioning, air fresheners and air purifiers.

A no smoking policy also effectively prevents fires.

A no smoking policy also ensures an affordable and easy way to maintain the interiors of office buildings.

Tobacco smoke can settle in/on sealant sealed surfaces, sheet rock, office furniture, office equipment, carpets and cupboards or cabinets. It is extremely expensive to replace all these items and tobacco smoke can be very stubborn to remove.

No smoking signs not only ensure a healthier and safer workplace, they also help to reduce maintenance expenses and encourage people to quit smoking. Those who don't want to quit, can go outside and light up in clearly defined areas where you are allowed to puff away.
