How Great Leaders Become LEGENDS?

In my over three decades of identifying, qualifying, training, developing and consulting to well over a thousand individuals either in leadership positions or striving to become better leaders, I nearly always commence the process by asking these people to explain to me what their main motivations and intentions in leading are.
It appears that the most commonly given reason is that they state that they want to make a difference, but rarely does this response become expanded beyond merely being somewhat rhetorical.
My response, in some form or another, has generally been for each individual to carefully consider what this means to them, in a clearcut and somewhat precise manner.
Perhaps the best thing any leader can do is to aim to make a positive, productive, sustainable difference in the lifeline of his organization.
When someone proceeds with that priority, they potentially become great, and these are the leaders who often become LEGENDS.
1.
When someone begins his leadership process with the mindset that he will continuously lead impactfully, listen intently, learn constantly and as much as possible, and, perhaps most essentially, love what he does.
2.
A true leader always realizes that the course and direction he takes must never be solely about what he wants or thinks, but rather must see things through th eyes of those he serves in a truly empathetic manner.
This means that rather than isolate oneself, leading means that one makes every effort to engage them openly and respectfully.
3.
One must aim to gain goodwill by generating true and meaningful gains and achievements, that are perceived as being valuable by constituents and other stakeholders.
4.
It is often challenging, but there must be the realization that one must earn the loyalty and respect constantly.
This can only be done when there is a genuine attempt and mindset to enrich the organization and one's followers.
5.
Although it may seem to be common sense, one of the often ignored approaches and realizations is that the focus must be on being needs - oriented.
6.
Constituents look at what a leader does, and therefore leaders must genuinely demonstrate desire, maintain professional dignity and discipline, and thus determine and thus create their own destiny.
7.
There is never any real leadership unless it begins with an emphasis on real service.
Every great leader eventually realizes that their attention must not be solely on a short term fix, but must be on doing things that are sustainable.
Legendary leaders make a real difference in the lives of their organization.
If you really want to lead, aim to become a LEGEND.
