Strattera Side Effects: How Long

    Side Effects in Children

    • Because Strattera is prescribed to both children and adults, it tends to cause different side effects with each group. Children who experience side effects as a result of Strattera report stomach pain more often as well as nausea and dizziness. Strattera may also cause children to experience mood changes, a slower-than-usual growth and drowsiness. Side effects may last for a few hours after taking the medication, or they may persist for days or weeks. Consult your child's doctor and report all side effects as related to taking Strattera.

    Side Effects in Adults

    • Like side effects reported in children, adults using Strattera may suffer for a few hours after taking the medication, or the side effects can be longer lasting. Adults may experience insomnia, constipation, nausea and dryness of mouth as a result of taking Strattera. Other side effects include difficulty urinating and decreased appetite. It is important that you inform your doctor if you experience any of these side effects, as he may need to adjust your medication.

    Withdrawal Symptoms

    • If you choose to discontinue your treatment of Strattera due to side effects, be aware that your ADHD symptoms may reappear as a result of stopping your medication. Your doctor may suggest a tapering-off period, or he may simply stop your treatment or start you on an alternative medication. Do not suddenly stop taking Strattera without first consulting with your doctor.

    Medical History

    • If you have heart disease, a heart defect or have had a heart attack or history of heart problems, it is important that you inform your doctor before you start taking Strattera. Taking Strattera while having heart problems may complicate or worsen your condition. If you have suffered from a stroke or have had a blood clot, you should tell your doctor before you start your treatment with Strattera.

    Warning

    • Use of Strattera may impair your thinking and judgment capabilities. Be careful if you are driving a vehicle while taking Strattera. It is important that you never take a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) for two weeks after stopping treatment of Strattera.
