Horse Vices - Horses Bad Behavior Problems

Cribbing: Is when a horse puts its top teeth on a hard surface such as a stall wall or metal bar, arches its, neck and sucks in air.
Horses that crib tends to destroy fence boards and stall doors and walls.
This vice is also dangerous for the horses, because it can cause a horse to colic.
Cribbing is almost impossible to stop once the habit is established.
They do have special collars you can purchase for the cribbing horse.
They apply pressure to the neck and temple muscles when the horse tries to crib and discourage the behavior.
Shying: Most horses will shy away from things because of fear, such as plastic bags, water, tractors not wanting their face touched etc...
What you don't want is a horse that shies away from just about everything or a horse that shies very easily, because this behavior can become potentially dangerous.
With time, handling, and proper horsemanship, the fearful or shy horse can learn to better deal with and or face his fears.
Biting: some horses can tend to get nippy about one thing or another, such as when tightening the girth during saddling.
Some horse may bite anytime you do something they don't like.
A lil nip in the air when tightening the girth during saddling is no cause for alarm, but should be corrected.
But any horse that really tries to bite at any time is potentially dangerous, especially around children.
This vice can be corrected.
Pulling Back: This particular vice of pulling back usually occurs when, a horse is not broke to tie and violently pulls back when tied.
This is another potentially dangerous vice.
A horse can fall backwards and land on his back or hurt someone near by.
Horses must be taught to tie.
I usually start by ground tying.
A fearful horse with a bad history about tying can be a big risk for beginners or children.
Retraining a horse that pulls back is definitely not for a beginner.
I'd also recommend you find a good horseman vs a trainer.
It takes a specially technique and touch with a horse like this.
