How to Store Items in the Junk Mail Folder
- 1). Click or double-click the email message to open it. Look for a "Spam," "Report Spam" or "Junk" button above the message headers, and click that button. You can also click the "Move" button and select "Spam" or "Junk" from the drop-down folder list. Either action will mark the message as spam and move it to the Spam or Junk mail folder.
- 2). Customize anti-spam settings. Find an "Options" or "Settings" link, and look for spam filters and email address blocking. You may be able to set the spam-filter strength, and even choose to receive mail only from your contacts and other trusted sources. The more stringent your spam filter settings are, the more junk mail it will be able to screen. Use address blocking to automatically discard mail from particular addresses.
- 3). Filter email addresses. Set up email filters to decide which messages go where. Look in your mail settings for an option like "Filters." When you find it, click on the "Add Filter" or "Create a New Filter" command. Set the rules for the filter. Define the contents of the subject, sender, recipient and/or body text that would identify a message as spam. Specify the Junk or Spam folder as the destination folder for these messages and save your changes. You can add or remove filters as well.
