How to Build Solar Panels - Step by Step Tutorial

A solar panel produces clean power. It converts solar energy into electricity. You could buy a professionally made solar cell but they are normally very expensive. Why not save yourself a lot of money and make one yourself with a handful of materials from your local hardware store?

When you build solar panels you're not only reducing the amount of pollution released to the air, you're saving a lot of money! Professionally made solar panels are mass-produced in factories which release chemicals into the atmosphere.

While you might imagine being able to build solar panels is just a dream, the truth is it's a lot easier than you think. By building your own solar panel, you're going to avoid the extremely overpriced solar panels that are sold in stores. Not only that, but when you install it yourself you will be saving huge installation fees. If you were to get a professional solar power system installed, you would be paying thousands of dollars. Why not save that money and install your own for a fraction of that?

By learning how to build solar panel you can stay away from this huge cost. In order to construct them you only need a basic list of materials. You should be able to purchase all these materials at your local hardware store (if you don't have them laying around your house already). You will need:

  • Sheet of copper flashing
  • Two metal clips
  • A heat source
  • A bottle
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Sand paper
  • Metal shears

You'll need to connect the cells together in a parallel.  The wires will run through holes behind each cell. The backboard is  then reinforced with another piece of wood for stability. Then you will have to construct a small frame around the outside of the back board. This frame needs to be higher than the solar cells so there's a space between the cells and the Plexiglas. Finally, you want to seal the edges with silicon sealant.
