How to Swap Seats in a '76 Chevy Truck

    • 1). Open the doors on your Chevy and locate the bolts that hold the seat track to the floor of the truck just in front of the seat. There is one on each side of the truck.

    • 2). Remove both front mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet, setting them aside from reuse later. Release the seat adjuster on the driver's side of the seat and slide it as far forward as it will go. Lean the seat back forward and locate the two mounting bolts on the rear-mounting track.

    • 3). Remove the rear mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet then set the bolts aside and slide the seat out the passenger's side of the truck. It is heavy so you may want to recruit a second set of hands for this part of the job.

    • 4). Position a new seat in the truck, aligning the holes in the seat track with the threaded holes in the floor of the truck. If the holes are rusty, spray a small amount of lubricating spray or penetrating oil into the threads.

    • 5). Install the two rear mounting bolts through the seat track and into the holes in the floor. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet. Slide the seat back as far as it will go and install the two bolts into the front holes and tighten them with a socket and ratchet.

    • 6). Adjust the seat until it is comfortable then shut the doors.
