And the Vaping Award Goes to…
Most of the time, we know more about what's happening in Hollywood than in our own town.
We all are fascinated by the celebrities, and since it is Oscar season, we decided to give some recognition to a special celebrity who has done exemplary work in helping bring vaping awareness to not only Hollywood, but the nation. And the award goes to…Katherine Heigl.
The beautiful Katherine Heigl is best known for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy, as well as a laundry list of films, including Knocked Up, 27 Dresses, and The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler. But she also distinguishes herself as a proud vapor smoker. In fact, since 2010, Heigl has been an "ambassador" of sorts for e-cigs in Hollywood .
Heigl began her public support of vaping back in August 2010, when she appeared on the David Letterman Show.
During the interview, after talking about her struggles with smoking traditional cigarettes, Heigl introduced Letterman to her healthy, new alternative—vaping. She even shows Letterman her own personal e-cig, which she has bejeweled. It seems that the glitz and glamour of Hollywood has rubbed off on e-cigs as well.
Heigl staunchly supports her decision to vape, telling Letterman, "You blow out water vapor so you're not harming anyone around you, and you're not harming yourself."
Part of the reason Heigl made the change to e-cigs was because of her new daughter. Nancy Leigh, nicknamed Naleigh, is a special needs child from South Korea , and was adopted by Heigl and husband Josh Kelly in 2009. Heigl always knew that smoking was bad for her, but the arrival of sweet Naleigh made her rethink the effects that secondhand smoke was having on the people around her.
During the interview, Letterman even takes a hit of Hiegl's bejeweled e-cig . After taking a couple long drags—showing the audience that he is not a stranger to smoking himself—Letterman simply replies, "This is remarkable."
She agrees, saying, "You have no excuse now to smoke a real cigarette."
Letterman and Hiegl also discuss the dangers of smoking cigarettes, bringing up that cigarettes have over thirty carcinogenic chemicals which are released when burning the tobacco, which causes harmful smoke and tar.
"It's bad for you, it's bad for people around you," says Heigl about smoking cigarettes. "So this [e-cig] is saving my day." According to her, e-cigs are saving the day for her daughter as well.
Since her Letterman appearance, Heigl has been seen vaping on numerous occasions.
So what's Heigl's latest e-cig spotting? She was recently photographed shopping, with e-cig in hand, with her husband and daughter Naleigh in the Soho suburb of New York City .
So, we give a bravo to Katherine Heigl. She may not win an Oscar this year, but her advocacy on behalf of e-cigs is deserving of an award regardless.
