How to Foster a Positive Attitude at Work

    • 1). Change the way you act toward your co-workers. Instead of being standoffish, compliment your co-workers on a job well done. Thank the ones that make your job easier. After two weeks of showing your appreciation, you will begin to notice a change in the way you feel about your co-workers as well as your own personal feelings about the workplace.

    • 2). Be enthusiastic. Every day isn't going to be as exciting as the next, so it's important to remain positive. Smile and joke around with co-workers. This attitude is infectious and might even be uplifting to your co-workers.

    • 3). Look for opportunities to have fun. As the old saying goes, "Time flies when you're having fun." Participating in silly conversations or mini-celebrations can really lighten the mood.

    • 4). Avoid negative situations. If you are having a conflict with a co-worker that has yet to be resolved, don't spend time thinking about what is bothering you. Confront the person and tell him or her how you feel and if you still cannot come to a resolution, bring a supervisor into the discussion. It's not worth holding your feelings in and stewing about it.

    • 5). Look for the good in people at work. Instead of focusing on qualities that may irritate your or cause you to have a bad attitude, focus on the enjoyable qualities of your co-workers. These are people that you spend a considerable amount of time with. You need to learn to tolerate their company.
