Items That Have Infrared Light
- A thermographic camera is a twist on a traditional camera. This camera uses infrared light to form images. The heat emitted from an object--the thermal heat--is visually represented by the infrared light as images. These photos result in shapes and images shaded according to the heat they give off.
- Night vision goggles are specialized eyewear that allows you to see during the dark of night. The absence of light around you makes seeing items hard. However, by using infrared light you can detect objects based on heat generation. This makes the items and objects visible through night vision goggles.
- One military specific use of infrared light is in heat-seeking missiles. Since infrared light senses changes in thermal temperature, it can guide missiles to targets once parameters have been established regarding the amount of heat generated. For example, a heat seeking missile would use infrared light to find buildings or structures, which let off less heat than human beings or animals.
- Remote controls equipped with infrared light can communicate with televisions and other devices through the innate ability of the light to sense items based on pre-defined heat emissions. These remote controls also use radio frequencies for further operations. Most people are familiar with the red light radiating from the top of a remote control; this is an infrared light beam.
- Heat lamps, those working off of infrared light, generate heat through the radioactive waves associated with IR. Not all heat lamps work off of infrared technology, as some generate heat from incandescent bulbs which burn hot. Heat lamps using infrared light generate heat in a well-defined and targeted manner.
