How to Make a Sazerac Cocktail

  • 1). Fill a heavy-bottomed bar glass with cracked ice. Let chill.

  • 2). Place a lump of sugar in another glass.

  • 3). Moisten the sugar with a few drops of water and crush it with a spoon.

  • 4). Add several lumps of ice, bitters and whiskey.

  • 5). Stir until chilled.

  • 6). Discard the ice in the first glass, and dash in absinthe substitute.

  • 7). Twirl the glass until it is coated with the liquor. Shake out excess.

  • 8). Strain the whiskey mixture into the glass.

  • 9). Twist a lemon peel over the drink without dropping the peel into the glass.
