2007 Ford Edge Safety Features

    Airbags

    • Part of the Ford Edge's safety system is comprised of several airbags. The Edge comes with both driver and passenger side dual-stage front airbags in the event of a frontal crash. The passenger's seat comes equipped with a sensor that lets the airbag system know if anyone is sitting in the seat so it does not deploy the airbags unnecessarily. The vehicle also comes with side impact airbags mounted in both front seats as well as side curtain airbags to protect occupants in both the front and rear of the vehicle.

    Stability Control

    • The 2007 Ford Edge uses an advanced stability control system called AdvanceTrac to help prevent the vehicle from losing control and rolling on the road. The AdvanceTrac system uses two sensors that are gyroscopes. One sensor measures the vehicle's movement through turns while the other sensor measures the vehicle body's roll in relation to the other movement. The vehicle's computer then controls the brake pads and power to each wheel to make adjustments to prevent the Edge from spinning out of control or rolling over.

    Crash Worthiness

    • In the event of a crash, the Edge is equipped with more than airbags to protect the vehicle's occupants. The steering wheel and knee bolster in front of the driver's seat are made of energy absorbing materials to prevent injuries if any part of the driver's body were to impact these surfaces. The glove box on the passenger side is made of similar energy absorbing materials. Energy absorbing materials are also incorporated into the trim of each door to help cushion side impacts. The frame of the Edge is a solid unibody design, complete with cross-member ladder frame for added strength to resist harsh impacts. The Edge also features a reinforced frame around the occupant area of the vehicle.
