Recording with Dual Tuners using the Motorola DCT6412 Cable DVR
If you are a Digital Cable Subscriber, chances are you have the option of subscribing to Digital Video Recorder service from your Cable company. The Motorola DCT6412 is a Set-Top High Definition Cable Box that is offered by many National Cable Providers, such as Adelphia, Comcast, Charter, Cox and Time Warner. The Motorola DCT6412 is a powerful Digital Video Recorder that includes Dual TV Tuners. With the press of a button, users can switch between the two Tuners, which lets you do some interesting things while watching two different programs simultaneously (such as two sporting events at the same time).
Live Recording Two Shows at Once
To illustrate this tip, I will go through what I did when watching a football game and a baseball game simultaneously over the weekend. First off, using the Remote Control, I turned on the DVR and tuned to channel 3 (the CBS affiliate airing the football game). I then pressed the SWAP button located at the bottom of the Remote. This button flips me over to the other TV Tuner. I'm then able to tune to a different station without losing my other station. I tune to channel 50 (ESPN2), airing the baseball game. Pressing SWAP again will flip me back to channel 3 (football game). Since DVRs constantly record a station that you are watching, having the two programs on different tuners allows me to record each station simultaneously.
Now Comes the Cool Part
So I'm watching the football game and a commercial comes on, since my DVR is recording this station, I can pause this program, hit SWAP, which flips me over to the baseball game and watch that for a while. When I flip back over to the football game, I hit play, which resumes the game from the point I left off.
I don't want to watch the commercials, so I fast-forward past them and resume play when the game resumes. Next, I decide I want to check on the baseball game. Again, I pause the football game and hit SWAP to flip to the baseball. I notice that the score has changed since the last time I was watching, so I Rewind the baseball game to see what I missed. Sure enough, as I'm rewinding, I see a home run was hit. I resume play on the baseball game and watch the home run. I then want to fast forward the commercial and catch back up to the live broadcast. Once I check the score on the live broadcast, I flip back to football and continue watching that game, pausing, rewinding, and fast forwarding as I please. This goes on back and forth until the games end.
Make sure you Record with Dual Tuners
Lastly, when watching TV in this manner, it's important not to change channels between the two stations, but to use the SWAP button to go back and forth between shows. Because the DVR will only record while the station is tuned, changing channels will erase the program being saved on the DVRs hard drive.
