Law Enforcement Training & Standards
- To become a law enforcement officer, you must meet standards set by each jurisdiction. Some of the usual standards include possessing a valid driver's license, a minimum age of 18, no felony convictions, a high school diploma or GED and character of high integrity.
- Depending on the jurisdiction, a variety of training is available to law enforcement personnel. A few of the training topics are active shooter, cold case, digital photography use, domestic violence, drug task force and money laundering.
- Law enforcement personnel nationwide adhere to a standardized code of ethics. The code emphasizes personal integrity, an officer's duty to her coworkers, the profession and the public, nondiscrimination and how to handle conflicts of interest.
