How to Choose an Outdoor Security Camera

    • 1). Research the different styles of outdoor security cameras you can choose from. Bullet style outdoor security cameras have color and black and white capabilities and are weather resistant. They are one of the more popular choices. Infrared cameras work very well at night and are also a popular choice. Dome cameras have a distinctive look and can be very durable with added features to deter tampering. C-mount security cameras has features that allow you to change lenses, zoom in, adjust focus and see objects farther than 35 feet away.

    • 2). Check to see if the outdoor security camera has night vision capability. Crimes are more likely to occur at night, so you want to make sure the camera you choose is fully functional at night.

    • 3). Look for cameras with added features that automatically improve the quality of the captured image in different light levels. Some of these features include switching from color to black and white, balancing the contrast and infrared technology.

    • 4). Research the difference between wireless and wired outdoor security cameras. Wireless cameras are less secure because their feed can be hacked into, but there is less equipment involved and they can be more easily hidden. Wired security cameras typically produce a higher quality image and have a longer range.
