How to Persevere and Persist to Meet Your Goals
The dictionary defines perservere as; "to maintain an effort; not to give in".
Listed close by in the dictionary is the word "persist" meaning, "to continue firmly in a state or action in spite of obstacles or objections".
They seem to go together don't they? While contemplating the kind of article to write today, I was sort of dreaming and looking out the wintery window at the birds flying in and around the area where I have several bird feeders.
As I watched the different species of birds trying to eat the bird seed from the feeders, it reminded me of the words perseverance and persistence.
Small birds and large birds flying in and out of the feeding area with always a sense of urgency.
The larger birds scaring the smaller birds away from feeding due to their size.
The smaller birds seem to hang around the perimeter until the larger birds move away.
In spite of what seems like overwhelming odds, the smaller birds persevere and persist until they have found enough to eat.
What I have described in bird life is a glimpse of ourselves as we go from day to day, needing food for subsistence and realizing that we don't always have the things in life that we want.
Some of us hang around the outside perimeter hoping for something to come our way.
When we want something badly enough, we persevere until we find what we need.
We persist until our desires are satisfied.
Much like the birds that I watch daily, we come to understand that size and aggression by others can be factors which can prevent us from achieving our goals.
We need only to persevere and persist in order to acquire what is needed and gain back what has been lost.
Let us take the time to look at what is going on around us that can be meant to discourage us from achieving our goals each day.
Stop and think of the meaning of perseverance and persistence.
Because I have focused on them in my daily life, I am able to achieve my goals.
