- 1). Cut the power to the circuit by turning the breaker to the "Off" position.
- 2). Loosen the two screws on the side of the switch and the green ground screw near the bottom.
- 3). Peel 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the two wires in the circuit between the electricity source and the device to be controlled by the switch.
- 4). Wrap the bare end of one wire around one of the screws on the side of the switch and the second wire around the remaining screw. Either wire can connect to either screw. Tighten both screws with the screwdriver.
- 5). Cut and strip both ends of a short piece of the 18-gauge wire, connecting one end to the green ground screw and the other end to a metal object, such as the metal switchbox in the wall.
- 6). Install the switch in a wall box or on a flat surface using two screws for the holes in the top and bottom of the switch plate.
- 7). Reconnect the power to the circuit.
