Will Remembering Too Many Things Clog Up Your Memory?

Most people think that if you remember too much information, your mind will become cluttered.
And that this clutter will cause you to not be able to learn new information and have a hard time recalling the information you already know.
Some people will even go as far as saying that having too much information in your brain will make you go crazy! They seem to think that our brain has a fixed capacity.
So, is there any truth to this? Well, yes and no.
It is NOT true that our memory has a fixed capacity.
In fact, your brain has the capacity to absorb an infinite amount of information.
(So don't worry.
You won't go crazy from knowing too many things.
) But it is true that stuffing too much information into your brain can create a problem, if you don't have a system for organizing that information.
I've said before that the average person's memory is like a pile of books just thrown on top of each other and every time they want to find a particular book (a certain memory) they would have to dig through that big, messy pile.
And in this sense, there is some truth to the "cluttered mind" belief.
If you have lots of books piled on top of each other, it will be harder for you to find a particular book than if you only had a few.
But I've also said that a well trained memory is like a super organized library, complete with bookshelves and computer filing systems.
Since everything is organized according to a system, finding a book is a snap.
And since your memory has unlimited capacity, you can make this library as vast as you want.
You can add more bookshelves, expand the floor space of the library, or even add additional floors to the building.
In fact, this is exactly what people with phenomenal memory have done.
They've built an extremely efficient "memory library" inside their mind that allows them to not only store unlimited amount of information, but also retrieve them with ease.
These people aren't any smarter than any of us.
In fact, most of them used to suffer from having a really bad memory.
The key to their success, of course, was to learn how to organize their memory library.
The memory techniques (or mnemonics) that they use to do this are actually very simple to learn and you too can have a super memory by learning and applying these mnemonics.
