How to Wire a Vibe Hitch
- 1). Open up the rear hatch. Pull away the rear carpet and then lift up the spare tire well area using the handles on the trunk floor. Pull away the plastic cover behind the taillights using your hands. Run the trailer wiring harness so the T-connector on the harness with the red wire with the brown stripe and the yellow wire on on the driver's side of the trunk.
- 2). Run the T-connector from the harness underneath the driver's side trunk panel using your hands and pull it up to just behind the taillight. Unplug the wiring harness leading to the taillight with your hands. Plug the T-connector between the socket on the taillight and the stock harness using your hands.
- 3). Locate the ground bolt on the driver's side of the trunk by the taillight. Remove the ground bolt with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and install the ring terminal on the white wire on the trailer wiring harness to the ground bolt with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Run the remaining T-connector with the green wire from the trailer wiring harness to the passenger side taillight. Plug the T-connector into the back of the passenger side taillight using your hands.
- 4). Locate the rubber grommet at the bottom of the spare tire well. Cut a small slit in the grommet with the razor blade. Run the 4-flat connector from the trailer wiring harness out through the grommet and secure it to the hitch with the zip ties. Run the black wire from the trailer wiring harness through the grommet. Peel back the double sided tape on the converter box from the trailer harness, then stick it to the sheet metal on the trunk with your hands. Reinstall the carpet and floor on the spare tire well as well as the taillight covers on the sides of the trunk.
- 5). Run the black wire from the rear of the Vibe to the battery under the hood, securing the wire to the brake lines and chassis with the zip ties along the way, making sure to keep the wire away from hot or moving components. Cut the black wire to length with the wire cutters. Strip 1/4-inch of shielding off of the wire on the end of the black wire with the wire strippers and connect it to the fusible link using the yellow butt connector and the wire strippers. Connect the ring terminal on the fusible link to the positive terminal on the battery with a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then install the fuse into the link.
