Jute Industry Revival On The Agenda Of Ghanshyam Sarda
The scenario of the jute sector in West Bengal is at a dismal state. With the recent murder of the CEO at the Northbrook jute mill, the state of affairs in the jute industry is not looking good at all. The entire industry is undergoing a crisis situation for a variety of reasons. The murder at Northbrook has been blamed on anti-socials and the fatal incident hurt the jute industry very badly.
In the scuffle which took place in the Northbrook jute mill, the CEO was brutally attacked and the management has targeted outsiders. But recently, the crisis in the jute sector has erupted due to the rift between the union and the management. A rise in multiple numbers of unions has aggravated the problem further in the jute field. Previously the CITU led union used to resolve all the matters by negotiating with the workers. Currently, the number of unions has risen considerably resulting in complication of matters. The central and the state government have hardly done anything positive to resolve the various issues pertaining the jute sector up till now.
Industrialist Ghanshyam Sarda is one of the stalwarts from the jute sector in West Bengal. The Sarda group has made considerable investment in the jute sector of the state. The group aims to stand by the jute field in the current crisis and bring back things to normal.
A considerable number of workers depend on the jute world for their daily living but many of them have lost their jobs recently. More than 2 million staff working for the jute industry is likely to bear the brunt of the problem if it continues in this way. After the lynching which took place at the Northbrook jute mill, the entire situation between the union and the workers have become very tense. Work has been suspended indefinitely in the jute mill and more than 4,200 people have been affected by the current situation. There is hardly any order available for the jute products in the industry but the godowns are mostly full.
The intervention of local party leaders has made the various matters worse in the jute sector. These leaders have aggravated the problem with their multiple opinion and function in the industry. Many of the local party leaders are also involved in selling jute scrap and also recruitment of contractual workers.
The leaders of the jute industry association had already predicted the state of affairs and cautioned the government from an early stage. The lack of orders in the jute field has led to this severe problem. But the lack of effort from the state and central government in resolving the issue has been criticized by all.
Recently an appointment with the chief minister of West Bengal has been convened in this regard and the matter needs to be resolved at the earliest. The Ghanshyam Sarda Kolkata group wants all the problems in the jute affairs to mitigate at the earliest.
