How to Remove the Tape From a Car Mirror

    • 1). Peel off as much of the tape as possible. You can often scrape or roll some of the excess from the surface.

    • 2). Open the car windows to ventilate the workspace. Dampen a cotton ball or pad with acetone, the key ingredient in most nail polish removers.

    • 3). Lightly dab the affected area to dissolve the tape; do not allow the acetone to contact unaffected areas in the car. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the spot clean of the loose adhesive.

    • 4). Use a limonene- or petroleum-based adhesive remover as a more gentle alternative. These solvents come in applications specifically intended for use on vehicles. They will safely remove glues, adhesives, tapes and other sticky residue from virtually any surface in or outside of a car.

    • 5). Spray or pour the adhesive remover onto a dry rag, and rub it into the mirror tape. The adhesive will soak the adhesive and soften it for easy removal.
