Pebble Beach, CA: CHOMP'S Cancer Journey Program A Lifesaver For Many: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving, Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside & Soledad CaliforniaThe Monterey Herald on Friday profiled a wonderful 8-week program at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) for those newly diagnosed with cancer. It gives patients and their families and friends a course on what they can expect during diagnosis, treatment and recovery. The introductory course, Cancer 101, gives a breakdown of the emotional and physical stress patients can expect upon diagnosis, which are significant. Next comes a symptom and pain management course, which teaches patients how to stay in the best possible condition during their treatment, and how to take preventative measures and how to deal with symptoms as they appear. Other courses cover chemotherapy, relaxation methods and therapy and organizational care. CHOMP also brings in visiting lecturers such as oncologist, pharmacists and acupuncturists to help with the courses. Getting a cancer diagnosis can be terrifying.
