How to Cut Driveway Cement
- 1). Make marks in the cement to indicate cut placement. Concrete saws can only cut in a straight line, so place the marks accordingly.
- 2). Inspect the concrete saw for defects such saw housing cracks, broken handles or blade issues that could cause a malfunction or bodily injuries. Check the saw's oil and gas levels and add fluid if needed.
- 3). Start the concrete saw and hold it with both hands. Place one hand at the saw's back handle and use it to operate the throttle switch. Place your other hand at the handle located on the top of the saw.
- 4). Power the saw to full throttle and slowly let the blade sink into the concrete. Keep a firm grip on the saw. Rock the blade back and forth to make a cut wide enough to allow the blade to penetrate the concrete. A wide cut will prevent the blade from binding.
- 5). Work in a forward direction when using the concrete saw. Moving forward allows you to see the lines you need to follow and keeps the saw blade at a safe distance from your body.
- 6). Wait until the blade has come to a complete stop before setting the saw down after making cuts. This prevents the saw from bucking or running if the blade were to touch the ground.
