5 Popular Insect Thai Delicacies

Thailand is a country with a very rich culture and heritage, they have great beaches, wonderful temples, and many breathtaking sites. But there is more to this country than the things mentioned. Food, flavor, herbs, and spices is another thing that this country is very much popular for. But when it comes to a really good snack this tourist flocked country has something very unique to offer. They say that it match better with beer and these are fried insects.

1. Crickets - In Thailand these insects are considered a delicacy and they refer to it as "Jing Leed". What they do is they fry it in wok in a short time, then Golden Mountain Sauce is added, lastly its Thai pepper powder to finish it off. This is perhaps the most popular among these insect snacks.

2. The Beetle - And yes, i am not kidding. The one with a shell on the back and flies. In this part of Asia they refer to it as "Maeng Kee Noon". Like the Jing Leed this bug is cooked and dipped the same way by frying it in wok, dipping it in Golden Mountain Sauce, and rolling it in Thai pepper powder.

3. Wood Worms - The double WW is referred to as "Non Mai" with "Non" as worm and "Mai" standing for wood. Naturally this wood worn has a soft shell which is by the way prepared the same way as Jing Leed and Maeng Kee Noon. So that is Wok, Golden Mountain Sauce, and Thai pepper powder.

4. Bamboo Worms - This Thai delicacy s a snack that is the tastiest among all of them. Imagine Cheetos just in this case it is made up of worms. In Thailand, it is called as "Non Pai" while others refer to it as "Rot Duan" or in short as "Fast Train". Well, do not worry for it is very easy to cook. Guess how it is cooked? Same as the top three mentioned. So expect some spicy taste.

5. Common Grasshopper - They call it as "Tak Ga Tan". In some countries they are considered as pests but in Thailand with some Wok, Golden Mountain Sauce, and Thai pepper powder you can turn it into a tasty snack. In This Asian country people just love this grass hopping delicacy.

As they say, you have not truly experienced what their culture really is not until you have dipped your palate on their delicacies.
