How to get from Bangkok to Koh Tao
So you've made the decision, you're going to Thailand! But whereabouts in Thailand? With so much choice, it can be difficult making your decision. Head up north to the highlands and do some trekking? Go for a massage in Chiang Mai? Head south to one of the many islands? What a choice!
If you're flying internationally, chances are you'll be heading into Bangkok first. Bangkok is an incredible city, chopped full of any experience imaginable! If you're heart is set on some serious beach time, then get yourself out of Bangkok as soon as possible and head south! And the island of choice? Koh Tao, nestlled to the north of Koh Samui, its much larger neighbour.

Well, if you arrive in the afternoon into Bangkok airport, you could jump onto an overnight bus to Chumphon and take the first ferry over to Koh Tao in the morning. It's simple enough, you can book the tickets with Lompryah company and they will take care of your bus and ferry tickets. The bus leaves in the evening, travels overnight and drops you off before sunrise and you get to Koh Tao for an early morning arrival! It's a fantastic way to get down to Koh Tao as quickly as possible.

They play movies if you want to stay awake, or you can stick some ear plugs in and get some shut eye if you can sleep on buses! Watching sunrise on at the small wooden port of Chumphon is lovely as well, and the ferry ride is comfortable enough. This is one of the quickest ways to get to Koh Tao if you don't want to spend any time in Bangkok.
So why would you go to Koh Tao? Well, it has world class diving, and there are many dive schools offering everything from taster course to full qualification courses. There are numerous tiny coves where a handful of other people will be, where you can sit and enjoy the tranquility. On the main Sairee beach, there are many wooden bars which are relaxed and not like clubs. BBQ's are on offer every night. There are places to party here, but these areas are easily avoidable if you want to avoid them.
