How to Replace a 1998 Ford Mustang Tail Light
- 1). Turn off your car and make sure that the headlights are switched off. Open the trunk of your 1998 Ford Mustang.
- 2). Remove the black socket plugs that hold the trunk lining of your 1998 Ford Mustang. The plugs can be removed using a Phillips screwdriver.
- 3). Pull away the trunk lining. This will reveal four bolts that hold the tail light housing to the back of the car. Turn the bolts counterclockwise with a wrench and ratchet. This will detach the tail light housing and allow you to slide back the whole assembly and remove it from the car completely.
- 4). Turn the old bulb sockets counterclockwise and pull them out from the tail light assembly. Set aside the old bulbs.
- 5). Replace the old bulbs with the new bulbs. Twist the bulbs into the sockets, turning them clockwise.
- 6). Re-install the sockets that hold the new bulbs in the tail light housing. Turn the sockets clockwise until they are tight and secure.
- 7). Position the tail light assembly back into the car. Push the tail light's four bolts into the four open holes found at the back of your Mustang. Put back the nuts and washers of the bolts. Tighten the bolts into place but not too tight because this might crack the plastic tail lights.
- 8). Turn on your car and test that the tail light is functioning properly.
