How to Cut Bezels

    • 1). Mount the wax leg on the end of a pitch stick and push the metal into the wax leg as deep as you want the setting to be. Some metal should be sticking out of the wax leg to be graved, or cut, away to create your bezel setting.

    • 2). Using the magnifying glass for optimal viewing, use an oval graver that will be equal to the width of your final setting and shave off the excess metal.

    • 3). Choose a smaller round graver to create a bevel below your initial cut and repeat as often as you like to create your own setting design.

    • 4). Use a flat graver to cut the bevel your object will actually sit on, for example the pavilion of a diamond. Set the object in the metal still mounted on the pitch stick and use the leveling tool to make sure your object is even.

    • 5). Use the pusher or punch and hammer to fit the metal around the object before removing it from the wax leg for finishing. Finish the bezel by shaping the metal to the object using the engravers tools or by gently hammering the metal to the sides. Use the gravers to finish and tighten all bevels to keep the object from falling out.
