Just because you're a teenager doesn't mean you can't do something to help the environment. There are plenty of ways Christian teens can be environmentally friendly from reusing old books to walking to school.
God asks us to take care of the Earth. Plus, many of the things you can do won't cost you much more than a little extra time or effort.
1. Tithe Your Trash
How many times have you tossed a newspaper in the garbage, or even just put it in the recycle bin? Did you know that some animal shelters would love your newspapers? You can also donate your books, old clothes, toys, or even your car to organizations that make money off of second hand items. Remember your "trash" could be someone else's treasure.2. Reuse It
So, maybe that person's trash can be your treasure! Need a Prom dress? What about finding one at a Prom dress exchange or consignment store? How about those jeans? There are plenty of second-hand stores that sell quality clothing that has barely been worn. Or try looking for used books and textbooks to not only save money, but also prevent the destruction of trees. There are plenty of items that can Christian teens can re-use over and over by a variety of people rather than being dumped in overflowing landfills.3. Recycle It
One of the most common things you can do to be environmentally friendly is to recycle. So, when speaking of overflowing landfills, an easy thing you can do is recycle your plastic bottles, aluminum cans, magazines, etc. Check with your local recycling company to get a list of items that can or cannot be recycled.4. Buy Environmentally Friendly Bibles
Today there are organizations that print their Bibles on recycled material. If you can't find one of those Bibles, try looking for a used Bible. This helps save some trees and shows that Christians can go environmentally friendly while also being faithful.5. Get Unplugged
We all like our electronic gadgets, but do you tend to leave them plugged in after they're fully charged? Try going green by unplugging those electronic devices and turning off the lights when you're not in a room.6. Go Online
The Postal Service may not like this one, but sending e-mails can actually lower the amount of gas used. Also, getting your news or information online helps save trees by reducing paper used.7. Download Your Tunes & Flix
In order to reduce the creation of plastic and energy used on the creation of CDs, try downloading your music. There are plenty of websites that offer music that is often cheaper than buying a CD in the store. Today's technology also lets us download movies and television shows, too.8. Take a Walk
Yes, it is exciting when you first get your driver's license. Each one of us, when we reach 16, can't wait to get behind the wheel. Yet driving uses fossil fuels and emits dangerous emissions. So, even though you have that strong desire to drive everyone, you can do the environment a favor by walking when you can.9. Decorate Naturally
Some plants help clean up the air, like Golden pothos, peace lilies, ad English Ivy. So, take out toxins and add something natural to your rooms.10. Turn off the Faucet
Hygiene is a big deal to almost everyone, especially teenagers. So, showers, washing your face, brushing your teeth, etc. all become important parts of our daily routines. However, those tasks use a lot of water. Try only turning the faucet on when you really need the water, and make sure you turn off the faucet when you aren't using it. You can also try to reduce your shower time to lower the amount of water you use. Try shaving off a few minutes each time you shower so you become more efficient.
