How to Jump-start a 2001 Beetle

    • 1). Pop your New Beetle's hood. The switch is located on the lower console in the lower left corner of the driver's side.

    • 2). Open the New Beetle's hood all the way, and hold it in place with the hood stand. Do the same with the car helping you. The car helping you should be as close as possible to make the process easier and ensure the jumper cables can reach both engines.

    • 3). Clip the one of the positive ends of the jumper cables to the positive post of the dead battery. The post will have a "plus" sign. Positive cables are almost always red or orange, but double-check to make sure the cable has a "plus" sign on it.

    • 4). Clip the other positive end to the positive post on the battery in the engine of the working car.

    • 5). Clip one end of the negative cable to the negative post of the working car. This post will have a "minus" sign. Attach the other end to a metal, non-painted part of the engine on the New Beetle.

    • 6). Turn the key in the ignition of the New Beetle while someone else revs the engine of the other car. Be sure the other car is in "Park." Your New Beetle engine should spring to life on the first attempt or after a few attempts. Don't let the key stay in the "start" position for more than a couple seconds at a time. After the car starts, Unclip the jumper cables in reverse order of the way you hooked them up (negative clamps come off first), shut the hood, and drive away.
