How to Hook Up Guitar Amps
- 1
Guitar Input Jack
Locate the output jack to place the guitar cord input jack into. Once you have located this, take your guitar cord and insert it into the jack. It does not matter which side of the cord you insert. - 2
Insert Cord Into Input Jacks
Insert the free end of the guitar cord into the out put jack labeled either "Inputs" or "Guitar" on the amplifier. Depending on the type of amplifier you have it is usually located on the left side. The right side may also have other jacks, but these are used for either effects pedals or headphones. - 3
Plug it in
Plug in the power plug into an outlet. If it needs to be plugged into the back of the amp look for the place to insert the plug in. Before turning on the amplifier, make sure both the volume of the guitar and amplifier are turned all the way down. - 4
Amp With Setting Knobs
Flip the power switch on. Take your guitar and turn the volume knobs up all the way. Do the same with the amplifier but turn it slowly so you can find a level that you are looking for. Adjust the equalizer. Play around with the treble, bass, mid, and drive settings to get the tone that you want. To switch between clean and distortion, there is a button that you press in. When the button is pressed in, the guitar is in distortion mode and is much heavier than the clean mode sound.
