How to Become an International Bond Broker

    • 1). Develop an ability to listen to other people and develop creative solutions to their problems. A bond broker is more of a portfolio manager than a sales rep. You must fully understand international economics and finance as well as business strategy because you will be listening to your clients' complex financial and business problems and offering solutions involving creative use of bonds.

    • 2). Take economics, history, accounting, business administration and finance in school. It is best to get a master's degree in business, finance or economics. Math is also a good background, coupled with business and economics.

    • 3). During college, apply for summer internships at all of the banks and investment banking houses. It is extremely difficult to get these jobs unless you know someone who works in an important position in the institutional side of the investment business.

    • 4). Write and call bond-trading desk managers, particularly if you don't know anyone powerful enough to get you a Wall Street job. If you can attract someone's attention and seem like an aggressive and enthusiastic person, you just might get a chance.

    • 5). Do your homework on the credit markets before you make any attempts to talk to people. International bond broker jobs are few in number and many thousands of people spend time and money trying to get hired for them. If you are not knowledgeable and intelligent, you stand very little chance.
