How to Pack to Avoid Wrinkles
- 1). ~Start with an empty suitcase~
Begin packing with an empty suitcase. This may sound basic but wait to place anything in the suitcase until you know exactly what you're taking. - 2). ~Decide what to take~
Place everything you want to pack for your trip on the floor (shoes, books, etc.) or on your bed (clothes, delicate items). Gather everything together before beginning to pack.
If you have just one more load of clothes in the dryer, wait till they're available to start packing. - 3). ~Place heavy items at the 'bottom'~
Determine how your suitcase 'sits.' If it is a wheeled suitcase, when you are wheeling it, it will be situated or sitting upright. It may be placed lying down. As best you can, determine where it will be sitting most of the time.
Place heavy items on the 'bottom,' that is, in the area of suitcase that will be sitting with the rest of contents on top of it. Place shoes, books, and any other heavy items on the bottom.
Roll socks and place them inside shoes to help them keep their shape and to save space in your suitcase. - 4). ~Roll clothes in tissue paper~
When packing clothes so they don't wrinkle, begin with heavier items, such as jeans, jackets, and pants. Then work your way to more delicate items like shirts, blouses, etc.
Place an item of clothes on the bed and place two layers of tissue paper on top of the piece of clothing. Begin gently wrapping the clothing like a jelly roll, where the clothes is the cake and tissue paper is the jelly.
Roll any clothing that you want to avoid wrinkles and place them in the suitcase carefully. Try not to cram the suitcase full but line up items neatly to save space. Place additional undergarments in spaces to fill them up. - 5). ~Unpack right away~
When you reach your destination, open your suitcase and unpack the clothes that you don't want wrinkled. Hang them up or place them in a drawer.
