How to Get Help with your Utility Bill in Florida

    • 1). First goto the website(LIHEAP) www.FloridaCommunityDevelopment.org/LIHEAP or call (850) 488-7541 . To qualify for assistance, you must apply in the county in which you live.

    • 2). The Department of Community Affairs website will answer your questions about LIHEAP and direct you to the LIHEAP services provider in your county. On the right hand side of the page of the website listed above you will see a blue box with two links. Click on "Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program" to find your local LIHEAP agency. The agencies are listed by county in a pdf file.

    • 3). The web page www.FloridaCommunityDevelopment.org, also has links to the Weatherization Assistance Program, Community Services Block Grant, and a mortgage assistance program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

    • 4). A local social services referral system may be able to provide helpful information on other resources available in your community. You can reach this information by dialing 2-1-1 on your telephone.

    • 5). If someone in your household is elderly, your local Area Agency on Aging may offer a variety of services for seniors. To locate your local agency, visit the Department of Elder Affairs website at www.ElderAffairs.state.fl.us
