Halloween cupcakes are a fun addition to a Halloween party. It's easy to make intricate designs, and you don't have to worry about dirtying plates and forks, as with a full cake. Using frosting and pieces of candy, you can create cupcakes that are cute or scary--it all depends on the people that will come to your party. - All you need to make ghost cupcakes is white frosting, with chocolate chips for eyes and a piece of chocolate cookie for a mouth. Another way to decorate ghost cupcakes is to roll out a piece of white fondant and cut it into a circle that's larger than the cupcake, poking two small holes with a straw for eyes. Frost the cupcake with chocolate frosting, then drape the fondant ghost over the cupcake. The eyes will show through dark.
- You can make cupcakes that look like monsters in a number of ways. Think of the frosting as the monster's skin and choose a color that works--green is always a good choice, but you could also choose orange, red or purple. Use candy to form the eyes, nose, mouth and hair. For example, use marshmallows to make large eyes or cinnamon dots for small eyes. Use small pieces of licorice for hair or a beard.
- Pumpkin-themed cupcakes are ideal for young children. Use orange frosting and a piece of a green gummy worm as a pumpkin stem. If you want to make Jack-o-lanterns, use licorice or black fondant to make the eyes, nose and mouth.
- You can approach spider-themed cupcakes from a number of angles. For example, use white frosting, then pipe a spider web onto the cupcake using black icing. Alternately, simply place a black spider ring onto the cupcake--children get to keep the toy. Make a three dimensional spider using a piece of chocolate candy as the body and pretzel sticks as the legs.
- One way to make witch cupcakes is to focus on the witch's face--use green frosting for the skin color, chocolate chips for eyes, candy corn for a nose, licorice for a mouth and hair, and an ice cream cone for the witch's hat. Another way to create a witch cupcake is to just show her legs--use candy canes as the legs and fashion boots out of fondant. This makes it look like the rest of the witch is buried in the cupcake.
