Homemade Halloween Invitations
- Create a spooky Halloween invitation. Cut a tombstone from a piece of gray card stock, and print "RIP" and the guest's name on it. Then, tape it to a piece of fake grass (many fabric stores carry inexpensive fake "grass") and slide it into an envelope. Include a piece of paper that gives the time, date, and location of the party. For a really gross invitation, purchase some tiny boxes (available at most craft stores) and nestle an "eyeball" in a bed of cotton in the box. Cover the "eyeball" with a slip of paper that gives the details of the party. Use candy eyeballs or plastic ones that you can purchase at any gag or joke shop.
- Make friendly invitations for a children's Halloween party, or for a family-friendly affair. Cut out a simple jack-o-lantern from orange construction paper, and glue yellow tissue paper to the back of it to create the look of a candle glowing in the pumpkin. Cover the tissue paper on the back of the pumpkin with a piece of paper that tells the party's location, date, and time. Or, create a friendly ghost out of white construction paper. Glue "googly eyes" onto the ghost (available at any craft store) and give him a friendly smile with a black marker. Slip him into an envelope along with a printed piece of paper listing the details of the party.
- Use your computer to create a unique invitation. Take an ordinary picture of your family and add graphics to change it, such as adding witch's hats to the heads of the women in the family, or maybe covering everyone's faces with a jack-o-lantern. Or, dress up in costumes and then take the photo using your digital camera. Use a graphics program to frame the photo in a Halloween-themed frame. Add text of the party details, and then simply print out the invitations on your printer at home.
