Signs & Symptoms of Candida Yeast
- Candida infections can strike both men and women. Women might develop an obvious vaginal yeast overgrowth or feel extreme fatigue. Men can develop a yeast infection from the over-consumption of beer, which has yeast, as well as foods such as pizza, which has baker's yeast. They might feel abdominal bloating.
Candida infection can develop in the mouth and throat and is called thrush. It can also appear on the genitals of both men and women. - Generally, an overgrowth of candida creates unusual fatigue, temporary "fuzzy thinking," abdominal bloating or a strong sensation of upset stomach. In women, yeast infections are almost always noticeable. Men may not have any visible symptoms of candida, making it hard to detect. People can transfer candida infection to others through intimate contact such as kissing and sexual intercourse. This is easily prevented if one person is treated and condoms are used during sex or by avoiding sex until the infection is cleared up.
- People develop candida infections when their immune systems are down. They can also develop the infection from over-consuming foods with refined sugars like fruit juice and cane juice, as well as less-refined sugars, or fermented foods such as pickles or vinegar. Over-consumption of "molds" like mushrooms and cheese can contribute to candida infection.
People also develop yeast infections from taking oral antibiotics, which kill the flora bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, including the friendly bacteria that prevents candida. - Alternate foods every day in your diet so that you are not eating the same foods all the time. Many people eat some form of red meat, yeasted bread, juice, beer or pizza daily. Instead, eat different kinds of animal protein, such as chicken or fish, and rice and other grains instead of yeasted bread. Eating yogurt made with live cultures such as lactobacillus acidophilus is one remedy for candida infection. If you are not able to digest dairy foods, you can use probiotic supplements that contain only the live cultures.
- Because it is widely known that women often develop vaginal yeast infections, it is believed that candida infections do not occur in men.
