Stress - Techniques to Handle the Pressures of Daily Living
Help! Work life is stressful.
Home life is stressful.
How do I strike a balance between the two? Today, people are busier than ever.
They are constantly dealing with deadlines, financial woes, sleep deprivation, and fatigue...
basically, the pressures of daily living.
Long lost are the days when times were slower, when home was a haven, and when people curled up with a good book.
There was a way to relax and unwind from the day and believe that there were benefits in the old adage "Home Sweet Home".
In this day and age, there is a recurrence of role reversal, with men staying home and women going to work.
In addition, women take on multiple roles in the relationship as mother, wife, and professional, just to name a few.
In general, people have more pressures at home than at work, including caring for children, and coping with their demanding schedules of laundry, cleaning, lawn care, errands, and the like.
Financial pressures often play a role in how all of that happens.
Others find it extremely hard to leave work related problems at the workplace.
They are so immersed in their jobs that they cannot let go at the end of the day and leave it there.
It becomes difficult to walk through the door at home, turn off the concerns about work, and become the other role as fully functioning parent or spouse.
Even when they have a chance to relax at home, they are unable to relax because they cannot switch off work.
Often, we jump right into the kids' homework, tend to chores, or listen to the family drama.
There are stress reduction techniques to assist with handling the pressures of daily living.

- Decompress.
Take a moment when you come home to transition from work to home.
Whether it be 5 minutes or 30 minutes (Hide in the bathroom if you have to!), take a few breaths, change your clothes, or take the "me time" to move ahead with the rest of the day. - Relax.
If time allows, take a warm relaxing bath or shower, lie down and have a short nap, or listen to your favorite music. - Refresh.
After a hectic day, sip a refreshing beverage, sit for some quiet time, or find something humorous to keep a positive tone to the day.
