DIY Homemade Thomas the Train Birthday Decorations
- Use black painter's tape to create a train track on the ground. This works well for smaller kids who get sidetracked. Have the tracks direct children to the food table, activity tables and the play area. Greet kids at the door with engineer hats and cardboard-box train costumes, attached with suspenders. Snap pictures early, the bulky boxes won't stay on long. Give them each a whistle on the way out (unless you don't mind the noise).
- Use large rolls of butcher paper or cardboard cutouts to create an "Island of Sodor" landscape. To keep it simple, hills and valleys require little skill. If you're more adventurous, you can make trees, a roundhouse and Thomas' friends. A few puffy clouds taped to the ceiling will make your party room look just like a cartoon.
- This party poster doubles as an easy pin-the-tail-style game for kids. Use paint or markers to make a full-frontal faceless train engine poster. Leave enough room for a paper-plate sized face and color one in ahead of the party so it doesn't 'look" faceless. Let kids color in their own paper-plate faces and then have them stand in line to try their hand at, while blindfolded, sticking the face in the right place.
