Obtain the Unlock Code

• 1). Ask the provider of the phone to give you the unlock code. Unlocking a phone is little more than punching a phone-specific code into your phone; phone carriers are in the best position to provide this code to you. If you tell your carrier that you are going to be traveling and want to be able to use the phone while you are abroad, it may give you the code. Some carriers have limitations on unlocking a phone, i.e., they may require you to subscribe to their services for a certain period of time before giving you the unlock code.
  
  
• 2). If your phone is a Nokia phone, go to unlock.nokiafree.org to get a free unlock code.
  
  
• 3). Go to GlobalUnlock.com to get an unlock code. The codes are provided based on the kind of phone that you have. This service costs money.
  
  

Enter the Code

• 1). The provider of the code will give you instructions on how the code should be entered. Most of the time, this involves starting the phone without a SIM card.
  
  
• 2). Enter the code into your phone. When it is unlocked, the phone will display a message to that effect, and you will be able to put any SIM card into the phone to operate it.
  
  
• 3). Put your new SIM card in to test it. Your phone will power up with your new phone number on your new system.
